Your Referral Journey

As pet owners ourselves, we understand how stressful it can be when a pet requires a referral for Specialist advice, diagnosis or treatment; most of us have been there too. We are here to provide the best possible care for your pet but we will endeavour to do this with empathy and compassion.

Once we have received a referral request for your pet from your own vet, one of our team will contact you to arrange a mutually-agreeable appointment. If you have any special requirement or access needs, please do discuss these with us.

We will send all necessary information out to you ahead of your appointment so that you have time to read through the information. This will help you to understand the process and we will also provide location maps and navigation details. Our location is very easy to find, being only 3 minutes from Junction 11 of the M56 and 9 minutes from Junction 20 of the M6. There is ample, free parking immediately outside our clinic.

Please try and arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment to allow time for checking in. You can also get a hot drink from our reception area. Once you have checked in, we would generally recommend waiting with your pet in, or near, your vehicle. Waiting rooms in veterinary clinics can be stressful spaces for dogs and cats and we find that your pet will be more relaxed if you avoid longer periods in the waiting room. As an important reminder, please do not leave your pet in your vehicle on a warm day.

As soon as your Specialist vet is ready, we will call you in. Your initial consultation with our Specialist will be 30-45 minutes, so as to allow plenty of time for a thorough discussion surrounding your pet’s condition and treatment options. Although we will not always know if your pet requires surgery until they have been assessed, we are usually able to perform further investigations, and often surgery, on the same day if necessary and preferred.

Often the information your vet has provided will give us a good idea of what we are expecting so we can usually factor that in to our day plan. However, please realise that our days can sometimes be unpredictable if, for example, an emergency arrives. We realise that this can sometimes cause inconvenience but we have to triage and prioritise patients according to the urgency of their medical or surgical needs. As pet owners, we are sure you will understand that.

It is vitally important to us that our clients feel part of the process and solution for their pets. We therefore want to make it clear that you, as the owner, always have the final say on whether you wish to proceed with any further treatment after your consultation. Your fully-informed consent is very important to us and if anything is not clear, please feel free to ask questions.

If you do elect to proceed with further investigations and/or surgery, your pet will usually be able to stay with us after their consultation if that is your preference. Equally, if you prefer to schedule further work for another mutually-agreeable date, we can book this in.
