Current Vacancy:
Theatre Technician (Northwest)
Departments: Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery & Neurology
Hours: 30 or 40 hours/week (across 3 or 4 days a week)
Annual Leave: 6.6 weeks pro rata including Bank Holidays
Start Date: As soon as possible
Key Responsibilities:
You’ll be an essential part of the surgical support team, helping to ensure the theatre suite runs efficiently and aseptically.
Theatre & Surgical Duties:
- Daily theatre set-up and shutdown
- Sterilising and maintaining surgical instruments
- Aseptic theatre cleaning & damp dusting
- Preparing surgical kits and donning PPE for the team
- Managing stock: sterile consumables, surgical implants, screws/plates
- Patient prep: clipping, scrubbing, positioning in theatre
- Equipment maintenance: clippers, suction units, cautery
- Assisting during procedures if needed
General Support:
- Support nurses and clinicians
- Maintain clean clinical areas
- Keep consumables stocked and well organised
- Regular ordering of stock
- Fulfil general cleaning and maintenance routines
- Help across departments when required
Essential Criteria:
- Experience working with animals
- Ability to handle sensitive data confidentially
- Calm under pressure
- Strong attention to detail

Twilight Animal Care Assistant (Northwest)
Location: Movement Referrals, Preston Brook, Runcorn, WA7 3GH
Hours: Part-time, 6pm–11pm, Monday to Friday (week on / week off rota)
We are seeking a Twilight Animal Care Assistant to support our on-duty night nurse and ensure the smooth handover of patient care and theatre duties.
Main responsibilities include (training provided when required):
- Supporting the on-duty night nurse with inpatient care
- Completing daily hospital set-up and shut-down tasks
- Exercising and providing enrichment for inpatients
- Grooming and maintaining patient comfort and hygiene
- Monitoring and recording vital signs (TPR, MM, CRT)
- Administering oral and topical medications as directed
- Handling and restraining patients, following cat-friendly policies
- Completing laundry and maintaining cleanliness throughout clinical areas
- Assisting with theatre duties, including cleaning, sterilisation, and maintaining asepsis
- Maintaining and restocking consumables
- Ensuring equipment and clinical areas are clean and well-maintained
- Supporting colleagues and fulfilling rota obligations (including holiday/sickness cover)
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a veterinary practice
- Confident handling animals and managing data confidentially
- Calm under pressure with great attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as part of a busy team

Animal Care Assistant – Maternity Cover (Northwest)
Location: Movement Referrals, Preston Brook, Runcorn, WA7 3GH
Position: Full time (40 hours per week) – Maternity Cover
We are seeking another animal care assistant to join our growing team.
Responsibilities include, and training will be provided where required:
- Complete daily hospital set up and shut down lists
- Exercising & providing enrichment for inpatients
- Grooming
- Monitoring and providing supportive care to inpatients (to include calculating and administering accurate patient nutritional requirements)
- Ensuring patients are clean and comfortable in their environment
- Administering oral and topical medications when directed
- Handling and restraining patients (adhering to cat friendly policies where applicable)
- Completing and recording patient vital signs and communicating to the nursing team (Temperature, Pulse Rate, Respiratory Rate, Mucous Membrane appearance, Capillary refill time).
- Laundry
- Assist with Theatre ACA duties as required
- Clean, maintain and sterilise surgical instrumentation following SOPs
- Maintain an aseptic environment in the theatre suite
- Maintain consumables within sterile services
- Prepare the surgical team for procedures to include donning surgical PPE and opening sterile packs.
- Assisting in the transportation and positioning of patients into and out of theatre
- Assisting the clinical teams
- Keeping all clinical areas clean and tidy
- Equipment maintenance e.g. ensuring clippers are clean between patients, blades are regularly replaced/sharpened
- Prepare patients for surgery (to include clipping & surgical scrub in accordance with the surgical scrub protocol)
- Completing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning regimes
- Fulfilling obligations of the rota to include sickness cover, holiday cover and bank holiday cover in any area required
- Carrying out any reasonable requests made by the Clinical Directors, vets, nurses, and any member of the management team.
Essential criteria:
- Experience of working with animals
- Handling customer data in a confidential manner
- The capacity to stay calm in stressful situations
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Being able to work independently, take direction and collaborate within a busy team

Veterinary Neurologist (Uttoxeter)

Movement Referrals (Uttoxeter) will be a brand new independent neurology and orthopaedic Specialist veterinary clinic.
We are looking for a keen, dynamic neurology Specialist who will integrate enthusiastically with a new team to build a first-class service. This position would be well-suited to an individual driven to develop and refine their neurosurgical skills in a supportive environment with an experienced team. It would also suit an experienced neurosurgeon, seeking to improve client access to advanced procedures in our region.
We will have in-house 1.5T MRI and 32 slice CT with three large, purpose-built theatres.
We will offer comprehensive support packages for professional development. You will join our experienced Specialist team with the potential for a leadership role within the neurology department in the future.
Essential criteria:
- Board certified or eligible veterinary neurologist
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Desirable criteria:
- Experience in research and publication
- Clinical governance experience
- Independence in basic neurosurgery
