Clinical Research

At Movement Vets, all of our directors have substantial experience in clinical research. Between us, we have co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed papers in the areas of veterinary and comparative orthopaedics and neurology. We have a track record of engagement with leading industry partners and we have successfully delivered on clinical and laboratory studies.

Particular areas of expertise are:

Osteoarthritis

Clinical trials and management of clinical trials. We not only have experience of conducting clinical trials, but also managing clinical trials with partner primary care practices. We have a deep understanding of the important variables within such studies and we have knowledge to construct electronic clinical report forms through cloud-based electronic data capture (EDC). In a cost-effective manner, we can take a trial from inception through to manuscript submission for peer-reviewed publication.

Implant design and testing

With our partners at Fusion Implants, we have extensive experience in the design, factor-of-safety testing, mechanical testing and ethical clinical testing of novel orthopaedic implants. With our partners, we have brought several novel implants to market including the humeral intracondylar repair system (HIRS) and the lateral epicondylar anatomical plate (LEAP).

Movement disorders in dogs

Movement disorders are increasingly recognised in dogs and Mark Lowrie, leader of our neurology team has been a leader in clinical research in this area.

Quality Improvement in small animal surgery

QI continues to build momentum in veterinary medicine and we have a long track record of engagement in this area. For example, John Innes founded the Canine Hip Registry in 2008 and this is endorsed by the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association. In addition, Mark Morton initiated the RCVS Knowledge ‘Canine Cruciate Registry’, a national project to collect outcomes data in canine cruciate surgery and sponsored by the veterinary QI charity ‘RCVS Knowledge’
